Join a California Naturalist Guide for an introduction to the City Nature Challenge and a guided walk to find photo subjects for your challenge entries.
This will be an east nature walk around the upper canyon of Franklin Canyon park, including visits to the Redwood Grove, the Heavenly Pond, and the Lake.
We’ll work together as a team to find insects, plants, and wildlife to help LA become a winner for this international challenge!
No registration required and FREE! We will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.
Please wear a hat and walking shoes. Bring your smartphone or camera and water.
Tom has been leading spring hikes for years and they’re a great, fun way to explore one of L.A.’s most spectacular parks, Malibu Creek State Park. You’ll learn about the animals, plants and flowers that fill our parkland.
NORTHEAST HIKE – Meet at the park’s West Gate on Crags Road near Malibou Lake at 8:45am. Be cautious of “No Parking” signs, so you’ll need to park a few blocks from the gate off the road. We’ll hike to end of the Lost Cabin Trail, see the base of the Malibou Lake Dam, and return to West Gate.
Each hike is between 3.5-4.5 hours, depending on the pace of the group. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring 2 quarts of water, lunch or snacks, a wide brimmed hat and sun screen. Rain cancels. PLEASE RSVP by the Thursday before the hike. Contact Tom at 818-216-7696 or email@example.com and be sure to leave your phone number.
