BACKBONE TRAIL HIKE Part 1: Join us as we begin hiking sections of the newly completed 67 mile Backbone Trail, which winds through the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The first section (moderate) starts at the Ray Miller trailhead, where we ascend to the fire road with wonderful ocean, island and canyon views. After more climbing, a winding trail descends to Sycamore Canyon, where we walk among oak, sycamore and walnut trees. 9.6 miles with an elevation gain/loss of 1,100 ft. Bring layers, water, lunch, sun protection, and the other 10 essentials. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Starbucks at 1921 N. Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA 93036 or at the Sycamore Canyon Campground day use parking area at 8:30 a.m. to leave cars for short shuttle back to La Jolla Canyon. Rain cancels.
