The National Park Service will host a free car show and drive-in movie showing of the ‘80s classic hit “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.”
“Paramount Ranch is a film ranch with a twist,” explained Park Superintendent David Szymanski. “For a short time, it also had a dangerous racetrack, which made it into movies and TV programs.”
While Paramount Ranch operated as a movie ranch, it was also home to a short-lived racetrack in the 1950s. The movie The Devil’s Hairpin was filmed on the course, which closed down after two fatalities within 18 months from its opening.
The event’s schedule includes a number of activities:
4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: Classic cars on display in Western Town
4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: Kids activities
4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.: Car Culture and History Tours
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.: Showing of “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure”
Attendees can choose to watch the film from their vehicles or can bring a chair to sit in a designated seating area. Snacks from concessionaires and food trucks will also be available for sale.
